The European Green Capital, for the greenest city with over 100,000 residents, went to Zaragoza, Spain, The Green Leaf Award, for cities of 20,000 to 100,000 was split between two Spanish cities. ¶ “Hungary’s 2026 Drought Is The Country’s Most Severe In 126 Years” • Hungary has experienced its most severe drought in 126 years in 2026, according to data from HungaroMet, the national weather service. The Central European nation recorded its driest and second hottest summer since 1901 this year, as well as record low water levels on the Danube. [Euronews]

¶ “Helsinki Votes In Favour Of Banning Fossil Fuel Adverts” • Helsinki has become the latest European city to vote in favour of banning advertising for fossil fuels and other carbon-intensive products and services. One key way it is doing so is by welcoming Chinese made EVs, rather than trying to block them. ¶ “RES Wins Permit For 450-MW Steeple Solar Farm” • RES has secured planning permission for the 450-MW Steeple solar farm in Nottinghamshire. Energy department DESNZ approved a Development Consent Order for the project on 9 October. The scheme near Sturton-le-Steeple will include a 150-MW battery storage system. [reNews]

¶ “Greenvolt Secures Financing For 253-MW Wind Farm” • Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Power, has secured €284 million in project financing for its 253.1-MW Gurbănești wind farm, under construction in Romania. The company said the financing was structured with a syndicate of eight financial institutions to support the project. [reNews]

¶ “Climate Damages Multiplied Times Four To $38 Trillion” • The annual 10 New Insights in Climate Science 2026/2027 report warns that to avoid irreversible climate tipping points, such as runaway polar ice sheet melting, accelerated marine heatwaves, and severe groundwater depletion, global emissions must be reduced by roughly 55% within a decade. ¶ “Energiekontor Secures Permits For 142-MW Wind Quartet” • Energiekontor secured permits for four wind projects totaling around 142-MW in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, Germany. ¶ “Members Of The Alliance For Electric School Buses Applaud Bipartisan Federal Legislation” • Members of the AESB applaud Representatives Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Buddy Carter (GA-1), and Greg Landsman (OH-01) for introducing a bipartisan bill in the House of Representatives to reauthorize the EPA’a Clean School Bus Program for five more years. ¶ “Hurricane Isaias updates: Storm makes landfall in Florida Panhandle” • Communities on the US Gulf Coast braced as Hurricane Isaias made landfall Friday night as a Category 2 storm. The storm, with winds up to 105 mph, made landfall in the Florida Panhandle at 8:30 pm Central Time. Isaias soon weakened to a Category 1. [ABC News]

¶ “Hurricane Isaias’ Landfall: Production Shut-ins” • Hurricane Isaias impacted oil and natural gas output. The Marine Minerals Administration reported that as of Thursday, 130 production platforms and rigs were shut down resulting in shut-ins of about 1.3 million barrels per day of crude oil and 1.1 billion million cubic feet per day of natural gas. ¶ “Location Of Possible Small Modular Reactor Revealed In Amherst County, Virginia” • A possible nuclear energy site’s location in Amherst County has now been revealed. Geenex Energy confirmed to ABC13 that the site would be at the crossing of Joshua Falls Road and Galts Mill Road. They call the project Beck Creek Energy. [WSET]
