¶ “Statkraft To Build 72-MW Emma Wind Project” • Statkraft is building the 72-MW Emma wind project in Piura in northern Peru. The project marks the company’s first investment in wind power in Peru and expands its renewable portfolio, Statkraft said. ¶ “Seoul Backs 1.8 GW In Offshore Wind Auction” • South Korea has selected five offshore wind projects totaling 1786 MW in its latest offshore wind auction. A total of 3656 MW in nine projects bid into the auction, achieving a 2:1 competition ratio for the first time. Of the winning projects, 1,254 MW were fixed-bottom and 532 MW were floating. [reNews]

¶ “Plenitude Starts 220-MW Villarino Solar Plant” • Plenitude has started production at its 220-MW Villarino solar plant in Salamanca, Spain. The project is expected to generate more than 400 GWh per year, according to the company. Construction began in October 2024 and was completed on schedule despite challenging site conditions. ¶ “German Startups Compete In Worldwide Race For Nuclear Fusion” • The world’s appetite for energy continues to grow. Data centers, which are essential for AI, have significantly fueled this demand. ¶ “Extreme Heat Forecast: What To Expect As Heat Wave Hits Midwest, Northeast” • A serious heat wave is bringing prolonged extreme heat to the Midwest, the South, and the East Coast this week. ¶ “Biggest US Wildfire Leaves Ranchers With Dead And Missing Cattle” • As the Cottonwood Fire, the largest wildfire in the US, continued to rage in Utah, ranchers reported finding dead cattle strewn across burned grazing land, and the state agriculture commissioner said it could take years for ranchers to recover from the devastation. ¶ “OpenAI Went From $5.09 Billion Net Loss In 2024 To $38.53 Billion Net Loss In 2025” • OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, went from a $5.09 billion net loss in 2024 to a $38.53 billion net loss in 2025. ¶ “Federal Appeals Court Upholds Limits On Fossil Fuel Use In Buildings” • The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit upheld laws that prohibit appliances burning fossil fuels in new buildings in New York City and New York State, affirming lower courts’ rulings.
