¶ “UN Nuclear Agency Boss Says Inspectors Will Visit Iran’s Sites” • Rafael Mariano Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said that Iranian nuclear enrichment sites would be visited by his inspectors, a key component in the interim deal between the US and Iran to reach an end to the war. This means Iran’s nuclear materials would be inspected. [ABC News]

¶ “‘El Niño Is A Distraction’: Europe’s Deadly Heatwave Isn’t Due To Nature” • Western Europe is suffering in another heatwave, its third this year. But most El Niño events temporarily increase the global average temperatures by around 0.2℃. That amount is not as significant as human-made climate change, which has pushed temperatures up by 1.3 to 1.5℃. [Euronews]

¶ “Electricity Wins Because It Breaks The Fossil Fuel Chain” • Electricity loosens the coupling of fuel to work. A motor does not care where the electrons came from. From heat pumps to data centers, electrical equipment does not need to be replaced when the grid gets cleaner. The energy source can be changed without upgrading the demand. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “Giant Shipping Firm Dips A Small Toe Into Wind Power ” • DHL’s latest decarbonization step is being enabled by its French branch, VELA Transportation. VELA has focused it business on pallets packed into ships that are small enough to be pushed across the Atlantic crossing, with wind power alone providing for their propulsion. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “As An Extreme Heatwave Hits, UK Homes With Solar Panels Power Equivalent Of Five Hours Of ‘Free’ Daily AC Use” • As the UK bakes with forecasts above 37°C, think tank Ember finds that households with rooftop solar are powering the equivalent of five hours of air conditioning a day. Solar and air conditioning have similar seasonal patterns. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “Trump Administration Announces $17.5 Billion In Loans For Ten New Large Nuclear Reactors” • The Trump administration is providing $17.5 billion to speed development of ten large nuclear reactors to meet the rising power demands of big data centers. Nuclear plant construction could begin by 2030 and they could start operating in the mid-2030s. [ABC News]

¶ “Two Microgrids With Solar Power Being Developed For Tribal Community In California” • The Paskenta Band of the Nomlaki Indians and OATI are partnering to develop two microgrids for the tribal community in Northern California. The project goal is to use renewable energy so tribes can have greater control over their electricity supply. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “A Bloviating US President Picks A Fight Against Clean Energy And Loses” • Donald Trump’s extraordinary efforts to squash the US wind industry are failing. The latest example is the massive, 550-mile, 3-GW SunZia transmission line. The technology of the ±525 kV HVDC line was devised by Hitachi Energy. The line is the largest of its kind in the US. § The most recent reported status of US nuclear power plants can be found at the US Nuclear Power Report, a distressingly dull account of NRC news, posted when the NRC gives us news to post. On June 24, out of 95 US-licensed power reactors, 5 were at reduced output and 2 not operating.

§ Video: Energy Week #680 – 6/11/2026: High fuel costs are driving up the cost of war. Regenerative farms do much better than conventional ones in drought. Most EU countries are reducing fuel imports, but a few are not. Some World Cup competition venues might have serious heat problems. There is more on the potential use of plutonium in nuclear reactors. A gold mine is running on 100% renewable energy. A bog is a natural military barrier, in addition to being important for dealing with climate change. And there is more.
