¶ “Fortescue Fast-Tracks Delivery Of ‘World First’ Renewable Energy Grid” • Fortescue is accelerating development of a large-scale off-grid renewable energy network as it races to eliminate fossil fuels, particularly diesel, from its iron ore mining and processing operations in Western Australia’s Pilbara region by as early as next year. ¶ “World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm Is Getting Plugged In” • The first export cable from Hornsea 3 has now come ashore on the North Norfolk coast.The project, developed by Ørsted, with a planned capacity of 2.9 GW, is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 3.3 million homes when it is completed in 2027. ¶ “Ontario Adds New Solar And Wind Power With Lower Prices Than Some Nuclear Projects” • Ontario says fourteen projects were approved through a competitive process, providing over 1,300 MW of capacity. § The most recent reported status of US nuclear power plants can be found at the US Nuclear Power Report, a distressingly dull account of NRC news, posted when the NRC gives us news to post. On April 13, out of 95 US-licensed power reactors, 7 were at reduced output and 18 not operating.
