¶ “Drowned Chicks And Food Scarcity: Emperor Penguin And Antarctic Fur Seal Now Endangered” • Climate change is leading to changes in Antarctic sea ice that are projected to halve the emperor penguin population by the 2080s, while reduced food availability has already driven a 50% reduction in the Antarctic fur seal population since 2000. ¶ “Hyundai Motor Company Launches IONIQ Lineup Brand In China With the Premiere Of Two New Concept Cars” • Hyundai Motor Company officially launched its all-electric IONIQ lineup brand in China, unveiling two design concept cars at the IONIQ brand launch event in Beijing ahead of Auto China 2026 (‘Beijing Auto Show’) on April 24. ¶ “BYD Expanding In Canada With Twenty Locations” • BYD announced that it will launch twenty dealerships in Canada this year. According to Globe and Mail, three locations are already under discussion in Toronto, Ontario. Calgary is also in the plan, despite its cold weather. ¶ “Japanese Rail Operator To Procure 98 MW Of New Solar Via Corporate PPA” • Tokyu Corp and partners revealed plans to supply Tokyu Railway with solar power under a corporate PPA, showing the shift toward new-build renewable procurement. Tokyu Railway will get electricity from around 98 MW of new solar plants. [pv magazine International]

¶ “Sonnedix Wins Big In Italian Capacity Call” • Sonnedix won 7.9 TWh of contracts in Italy’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism. Sonnedix recently surpassed 1 GW of operating capacity in the country and is hybridizing its portfolio with new battery energy storage system projects, including a co-located 18-MW, 72-MWh system under construction in Sicily. ¶ “Envision Inks $500 Million Expansion Financing” • Envision Energy secured a $500 million vendor financing agreement to support its expansion across Europe, Asia, and Latin America from BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking. ¶ “India Installs Record 45 GW Of Solar Capacity In FY2026” • A report by JMK Research says India installed around 44.6 GW of solar and 6 GW of wind capacity in FY 2026. Solar and wind installations increased by 87.2% and 45.6%, respectively, over last year. India’s total installed renewable energy capacity reached 275 GW. [pv magazine India]

¶ “John Gibbons: I’ve Changed My Mind On Nuclear Power. We Don’t Need It Any More” • Becoming energy independent is simpler than ever before. John Gibbons had favored nuclear, but he recently said, “I believe new nuclear power plants have no useful role in decarbonising and achieving energy independence quickly and at scale.” [Irish Examiner]

¶ “One State, 12 Counties, A Huge Pile Of Renewable Energy Projects” • Despite the efforts of President Trump to stop the renewable energy transition, state-based policies that support wind, solar, and storage continue apace. ¶ “Electric Trucks Are Selling Like Hotcakes” • The end of the federal EV tax credit spelled bad news for many automakers, and yet some persisted. EV startup Harbinger ran the numbers for its 2025 sales in an email to CleanTechnica earlier this week, and it affirmed that it sold “roughly twice as many EVs in Q4 compared to Q3, post-IRA.” [CleanTechnica]
