¶ “Inside France’s €240 Million Plan To Reduce Its Fossil Fuel Reliance” • The French government has announced it is moving to accelerate the electrification of its economy and phase out reliance on fossil fuel imports. “The issue is no longer only about climate, it now concerns national interest,” the Prime Minister, Sébastian Lecornu, said. ¶ “Toyota Adds EVs To Its Lineup In US And China” • Toyota is investing in EVs in the US and China. The company is putting $1 billion into two plants in the US. And it introduced the bZ7 sedan in China. According to CnEVPost, the powertrain for the new car is sourced from Huawei, a company that has been expanding into the automotive sector. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “BYD And KFC: Flash Charging While You Eat” • BYD and KFC partnered on Flash Charging in China. The new generation Flash Chargers (over 1 MW), launched last month, will be installed at KFC locations throughout China. Drivers can place an order and pay in the in-vehicle app while they navigate to the charger. The food is ready when they arrive. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “India Ranked Third Globally In RE Capacity” • India ranks third globally in renewable energy installed capacity, having surpassed Brazil in global rankings, Union minister Pralhad Joshi said as he addressed a press conference. India has added a record 55.3 GW of non-fossil power capacity in 2025-26, bringing the total to 283.5 GW. [MSN]

¶ “Shinan-Ui Closes Financing” • South Korean officials are celebrating the closure of financing for the 390-MW Shinan-Ui offshore wind project off the coast of Jeollanam Province. The array is the first large-scale offshore wind power generation project in Korea to be pursued with purely domestic capital, the Financial Services Commission said. [reNews]

¶ “Van Oord Completes First ‘Silent’ Monopile Installation” • Van Oord has successfully – and silently – installed three monopile foundations at Ecowende’s Hollandse Kust West wind farm in the Dutch North Sea using GBM Works’ VibroJet. It is the first time the technology has been used at commercial scale, and marks a milestone in silent offshore installation. [reNews]

¶ “RWE Installs Reduced-CO₂ Steel Tower At Thor” • RWE has installed the world’s first offshore wind turbine that features a reduced-CO₂ steel tower and recyclable rotor blades off the coast of Denmark, at the 1,100-MW Thor wind farm. Thor is set to have 72 Siemens Games SG 14-236 DD turbines, which will be installed by the end of 2026. [reNews]

¶ “India’s Nuclear Reactor Breakthrough Is Worrying Pakistan” • India’s progress in its nuclear energy program drew reactions from across the border after the successful development of the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor in Tamil Nadu. Pakistan’s arms control adviser is worried because the reactor will not be subject to IAEA monitoring. [MSN]

¶ “Inflation May Jump By Most In Nearly Four Years As Gas Prices Spike” • Soaring gas prices are expected to show in a spike in inflation when the government reports March consumer prices. The Federal Reserve is likely to be affected, increasing the political challenges of rising costs for the White House. The rate of inflation may have hit 3.4% in March. [ABC News]

¶ “Travelers Face Higher Costs And Fewer Flight Options As Jet Fuel Prices Swing” • A new reality is setting in for travelers worldwide: rising fees, fewer flight options, and tough decisions. ¶ “Merino Energy Comes Out Of Stealth With $3,800 Heat Pump System” • Merino Energy, a “climate hardware company” based in San Francisco just came out of stealth mode this week. The company launched its first product, the Merino Mono, a $3,800 heat pump. Installation, which takes less than an hour is included in the price. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “Donald Trump Guts Public Health Protection to Bolster Big Coal” • Donald Trump’s administration took direct aim at the health and lives of hundreds of American communities, as it announced plans to gut critical protections against deadly coal ash pollution, one of the most toxic industrial waste streams in the country. ¶ “America’s Power Supply Just Flipped” • Renewables generated over one-third of America’s electricity in March, overtaking gas for the first time and marking the cleanest month on record for the nation’s power supply, according to monthly data compiled by energy think tank Ember. In March, clean energy was 35% of US electricity, while gas was at 34%. [MSN]

¶ “Clean Energy Candidates Win A Majority in SRP Board Election” • Clean energy candidates won a major victory in the Salt River Project board election, despite heavy involvement from energy organizations and restrictive voting rules. ¶ “Living Near Nuclear Power Plants Increases Risk Of Certain Cancers” • A study that appeared in Environmental Health last December found that living near nuclear power plants is associated with an increased risk of certain cancers. § The most recent reported status of US nuclear power plants can be found at the US Nuclear Power Report, a distressingly dull account of NRC news, posted when the NRC gives us news to post. On April 10, out of 95 US-licensed power reactors, 9 were at reduced output and 17 not operating.
