¶ “Irish Renewables Cut Gas And Carbon Costs” • Wind and solar energy greatly reduced gas and carbon costs across Ireland in 2025, a report commissioned by Wind Energy Ireland says. The Cutting Carbon, Cutting Bills report, produced by Baringa, says renewables saved up to €13 million per day during winter price peaks when gas prices were highest. [reNews]

¶ “Alpiq Vuys 535-MW Spanish Pumped Hydro” • Alpiq acquired the 535-MW Navaleo pumped hydro storage project in Castilla y León, marking its first large hydropower investment outside Switzerland. Alpiq said the advanced-stage project is planned to enter commercial operation in the early 2030s and will provide flexible capacity to the Spanish grid. [reNews]

¶ “Renewables Surpassed 50% Of Poland’s Power Capacity At The End Of 2025” • Poland has registered a record 50% share of renewable power in its installed capacity at the end of 2025, up from 24.12% in 2020, according to Poland’s Ministry of Climate and Environment. ¶ “Massive US Study Finds Higher Cancer Death Rates Near Nuclear Power Plants” • A nationwide study that was led by researchers at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health reports that US counties situated closer to operating nuclear power plants have higher cancer death rates than counties that are farther away. ¶ “Supreme Court Agrees To Hear From Oil And Gas Companies Trying To Block Climate Lawsuits” • The Supreme Court said it will hear from oil and gas companies trying to block lawsuits that seek to hold the industry liable for billions of dollars in damage linked to climate change. The lawsuits allege that the companies deceived the public about climate change. [ABC News]

¶ “Renewables Top 25% Of US Power As Coal’s Grip Collapses” • In 2025, the share of renewables in US electricity generation has surpassed 25%. Over the course of the past 20 years, their share has continuously risen from just 8.6% in 2007. At the same time coal in electricity generation fell from a share of 49% to just 16.4% last year.
