¶ “Fraunhofer Study Finds Some PHEVs Use 3 Times More Fuel Than Claimed” • Fraunhofer ISI, in collaboration with the Öko Institute, released the results of a study it did of plug-in hybrid cars. The study came to the rather distressing conclusion that some PHEVs sold in Europe actually consume about three times as much gasoline as claimed. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “UN’s Guterres Meets Indian Renewable Energy Leaders, Calls For Action” • UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres met with Indian renewable energy ecosystem leaders. He wrote in a post on X, “The message was clear: The clean energy future is within reach – but we need a system-wide transformation to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels.” [Asianet Newsable]

¶ “State Labor Pledges Huge Renewables Tender” • The South Australia Labor government went into caretaker mode ahead of the March 21 state election, but not before locking in plans to launch a major competitive tender for new solar, wind, and storage projects if it is re-elected. ¶ “Remote Sarawak District Transitions From Diesel” • For over six decades, Lawas, a remote district in northern Sarawak, was cut off from the state’s main power grid, relying on diesel-based power generation for its electricity supply. Since 2019, however, the area’s energy landscape has undergone a transition, shifting from fossil fuels to hydropower. [Bernama]

¶ “Enel Lifts Investment To €53 Billion For 2026-28 Plan” • Enel has put together a €53 billion investment plan for 2026-28 to accelerate growth. The company said that over €26 billion will be directed to the integrated business, including around €20 billion for renewables that will add about 15 GW of greenfield and brownfield capacity. ¶ “Putin Tried To Freeze Ukraine, But He Started A Revolution In Energy” • When Russian air strikes knocked out Ukrainian power plants, much of the Black Sea port city of Mykolaiv went dark. Citizens once again endured bitterly cold homes. But there are new glimmers of hope in the form of PV roof panels paired with lithium battery storage. [Mother Jones]

¶ “FRV Lines Up 1.2-GW Spanish BESS” • FRV is developing more than 1 GW of battery energy storage systems in Spain totaling 5 GWh of energy capacity. The projects are expected to reach ready-to-build status between 2026 and 2027. FRV said the advanced-stage portfolio spans Andalusia, Cantabria, Catalonia, and Extremadura. [reNews]

¶ “Experts Warn Saudi Arabia May Have Uranium Enrichment Under Proposed Deal With US” • Saudi Arabia may soon develop uranium enrichment capabilities within its borders as part of a proposed nuclear deal with the US, according to congressional documents and an arms control group. This possibility is raising significant proliferation concerns. [AOL.co.uk]

¶ “Trump Promises Coal Jobs, Delivers Tariffs” • Trump has been focused like a thousand points of light on juicing domestic coal consumption by propping up old coal power plants, but that’s not necessarily going to save coal jobs. The misbegotten tariff war adds a level of uncertainty to the picture, particularly in regards to metallurgical coal. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “Tesla Sales Declined 11.4% In California In 2025” • Tesla sales declined around the world, from the USA to the UK to Germany to China. Now we see that in California, one of the company’s biggest markets, sales declined 11.4% YOY in 2025. That’s despite Tesla introducing an updated version of its most popular model, the Model Y, in early 2025. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “In Less Than Four Years, NASA Will Have a Nuclear Reactor on the Moon” • In a move that could redefine humanity’s return to deep space, NASA, together with the US DOE, is planning to deploy a compact nuclear reactor on the Moon before 2030. If successful, it will mark the first nuclear power system operating on another world. [Newstrack English]
