¶ “AI Greenwashing: Most Of Big Tech’s AI Climate Promises Fall Flat, Study Finds” • A report is casting serious doubt over claims from some companies that their products can meaningfully reduce carbon emissions. Only 26% of climate-related artificial intelligence claims cite any academic papers, while 36% didn’t cite any evidence at all. [Euronews]

¶ “Cuban Drivers Face Months-Long Wait For Gasoline In An App That Reduces Lines” • Cuban drivers face the prospects of waiting several months to refuel their cars, as the US oil siege intensifies fuel shortages. To avoid chaos outside gas stations, Cuba’s government last week required drivers to use an app to get refueling appointments. [ABC News]

¶ “China’s Carbon Market Expands Into Heavy Industry As USA Regresses” • China’s national carbon market is at an expansion point. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment has extended required carbon reporting beyond the original heavy sectors to include petrochemicals, chemicals, flat glass, copper smelting, papermaking, and civil aviation. ¶ “A Greenland Sled Dog Champion Fears For His Culture As Climate Change Melts The Ice” • Growing up in a village in northern Greenland, Jørgen Kristensen’s closest friends were sled dogs. He is now a five-time Greenlandic dog sled champion. But this year he said it’s the first time he can remember when there has been no snow in January. [ABC News]

¶ “Renvolt Wins 124.2-MW Irish Solar EPC” • Renvolt has signed a turnkey EPC contract to build the Wexford Hub solar project in County Wexford, Ireland. The contract with ESB strengthens a partnership that has already delivered four projects completed or under construction. Renvolt’s capacity under construction is now over 1 GW. [reNews]

¶ “UK And California Deepen Clean Energy Ties” • The UK and California signed a Memorandum of Understanding in London to accelerate clean energy cooperation and boost investment. The MOU creates a refreshed framework to drive innovation, scale up clean energy technologies and connect businesses and researchers of both economies. [reNews]

¶ “Japan Successfully Beams Solar Power from Space to Earth in Historic Energy Test” • The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency successfully sent power collected by solar panels in space to a ground station using microwave transmission. The test proves that clean energy can be harvested in space and delivered with no physical cables. [Microgrid Media]

¶ “Elgin Wins Eight UK Solar CFDs” • Elgin Energy has secured eight solar contracts totalling 382 MW in the UK’s AR7 Contracts for Difference auction. The independent power producer said the projects will be built in North Devon, North Lanarkshire, North Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Somerset, and the West Midlands. [reNews]

¶ “Children Of Chernobyl Workers Have Mutations In Their DNA” • Four decades after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster, the children of the workers are still living with the fallout. Researchers from the University of Bonn have shown that children of cleanup workers at the power plant have an increased number of mutations in their DNA. [MSN]

¶ “The Evolution Of The US Floating Solar Industry” • Activity in the floating solar field has been ratcheting up, motivated in part by the benefits of situating solar panels over water instead of using space on land. The idea is not conflict-free, as there are other uses for water. Still, new opportunities for ecology-first site selection are emerging. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “Rolling Back Climate Rules Will Cost Americans Bigly” • Last week the US government made a big show of entirely blowing up climate and exhaust emissions regulations, a move claimed to cause prices of new cars to come tumbling down. But according to the government’s own analysis, those actions will actually drive up the cost of new vehicles. [CleanTechnica]

¶ “Jay Leno Drives A Slate Pickup Truck” • Other than the new Rivians, the most anticipated full battery EV may be the Slate pickup truck. There have been many photos of the prototypes and test vehicles, but here is video footage of the Slate being driven. The base model pickup truck costs about $25,000 and it will be made in the US. ¶ “What’s Driving Up Maine’s Energy Bills? Natural Gas” • People in Maine pay some of the highest electricity rates in the country. But natural gas, not solar PVs and wind turbines, is the primary driver behind soaring power prices, according to a report by The Brattle Group that was released this week by the state’s energy department. ¶ “Octopus Buys California Solar+Storage Project” • Octopus Energy Generation is acquiring a solar and battery project in California as part of an investment of close to $1 billion in US clean technology. The company said the solar+storage project aims to generate low-cost power for the state and is expected to be fully operational by July 2026. [reNews]
